MARSHALL – Nelle Kincaid Niles, 94, of Walnut Creek Road, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at her home.

Nelle was born on December 5, 1917 to George William Kincaid and Bess Green Kincaid. She spent her early years in Etowah, Tennessee and after graduating from Etowah High School, Nelle entered Lincoln Memorial University. Upon completion of her freshman year, she transferred to East Tennessee Teachers College (now known as East Tennessee State University) where she received degrees in Elementary Education and Home Economics.

After graduating from college, she taught school in Tellico Plains, TN where she met and fell in love with her future husband, Ed Lee "Doc" Niles. They were married on January 26, 1944. Nelle continued to teach while Ed attended pharmacy school in Birmingham, Alabama. Their first move after leaving Birmingham was to Norris, Tennessee and then in 1958, they moved to Marshall where they bought and operated Roberts Pharmacy until their retirement in 1985.

Nelle was never idle. In addition to working at the pharmacy, she and Ed raised two daughters (Phyllis and Cynthia). Nelle was an active member of First Baptist Church of Marshall, volunteered as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, worked with the Marshall Beautification Committee and directed the Marshall Christmas Pageant for over a decade. Not only did she direct the Christmas Pageant, she also spent endless hours creating and sewing the costumes. Nelle loved to sew, quilt, play bridge and garden. She also loved animals and was a loyal fan of the Tennessee Vols football team. Above all else, she was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Ed, her husband of 62 years; one brother, George William "Bill" Kincaid; and three sisters, Evelyn Kincaid, Ruth Babcock and Juanita Chastain.

She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Niles Setzer of Asheville and Cynthia Niles of Marshall; three sisters, Bobbye Jean Byrnes (Ralph) of Houston, Texas; Carolyn Brewer (Jack) of Athens, Tennessee; and Marion Kincaid of Athens, Tennessee as well as several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home. Reverend Charles "Buddy" Freeman will officiate. Interment will follow in West Memorial Park in Weaverville.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Madison Funeral Home.
