MRS. VIOLET BROWN PRESSLEY

Died Sunday Morning In Charlotte Hospital--Funeral and Burial at Lincolnton Sunday Afternoon at 5 O'Clock--Remains Laid to Rest By Grave of her Husband, Dr. John Pressley.

Mrs. Violet Brown Pressley, of Lincolnton, widow of the late Dr. John M. Pressley, died Sunday morning, Sept. 24th at the Charlotte Sanitorium, following an illness extending over several months.

She was born Sept. 8, 1860 in the West Main street home, where she spent most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Dr. M. L. Brown and Catherine Elizabeth Brown; She is the last surviving member of that family, prominent and beloved citizens of old Lincolntown.

On Dec. 18, 1884, she was united in marriage to Dr. John. M. Pressley, who preceded her to the grave, having died July 2, 1891. Dr. Pressley was one of the best known and most prominent physicians of his day, and enjoyed a wide practice throughout this section.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Henry L. Vanstory, of this city, Mrs. Herbert D. Rodd, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and one son, Dr. J. Mason Pressley, a prominent physician of Belmont, all of whom were with their mother, when the end came.

The remains of the deceased were brought to Lincolnton Sunday morning from Charlotte. The funeral was conducted Sunday afternoon from the First Methodist church of which she had been a life long member, by her pastor, Rev. J. T. Mangum.

Lincolnton and its hospitable people ever held a warm corner in her heart. It was here the best days of her life were spent, and when her last hour came, and she was called to her everlasting rest, it was her desire to be buried beneath the shady trees of the silent city of the Methodist church burying grounds by the grave of her departed husband, and her wish was carried out.

A large concourse of relatives and friends attended the funeral and burial and laid many beautiful flowers on the grave as a last act of respect.

Active pallbearers Messrs. J. B. Johnston, A. L. Quickel, C. A. Jonas, I. R. Self, R. C. Goode, M. L. Little.
Honorary--Messrs. A. Nixon, J. A. Abernethy, R. M. Roseman, John K. Cline, G. L. Heavner, M. C. Padgett.

Among the out of town relatives and friends here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Stowe, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Stowe, Mrs. E. M. Crawford, R. B. Suggs, Mrs. G. W. Gulick, Miss Melba Gulick of Belmont; Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Hand and Mrs. Heywood Barnette of Charlotte; Dr. and Mrs. Mason Pressley of Belmont; Mr. Henry Vanstory of Blowing Rock; Rev. Leon T. Pressley and wife of McCormick, S. C.; Mr. W. F. Pressley and son William, and daughter Miss Isabelle, of Statesville; Mr. Wm. Moore and son, Harry, of Statesville, Mrs. L. S.
