Lawrence L. Aabye

DANNEMORA — Lawrence L. Aabye, 75, of Pleasant Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Plano, Ill., on August 31, 1937 the son of Martin and May (Fitch) Aabye.
Mr. Aabye married the former Marie Morawski in Folkston, GA in 1958, she died in 2009.
Lawrence was a graduate of Yorkville Consolidated High School in 1955 and joined the Navy the same year; serving in NAS Japan, Newfoundland, Iceland, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Jacksonville, Fla., and other bases throughout the U.S. His final assignment was as a Navy recruiter in Plattsburgh and Saranac Lake, retiring as Petty Officer 1st Class in 1980. He worked for Harris Graphics in Champlain, N.Y., and Northland Job Corps in Vergennes, Vt. He later became a Corrections Officer in 1991 at Adirondack Correctional Facility in Ray Brook, N.Y., retiring in 2002.
Lawrence enjoyed meeting friends at the Saranac Lake Stewarts, feeding the wildlife in his backyard and loved driving and working on cars. He loved being around children and enjoyed their humor.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Helmes and her husband William of Germantown, N.Y., and Sharron Aabye of Cadyville; a grandson, Joseph Aabye of Cadyville; a sister-in-law, Joyce Aabye of Eagle River, Wis; his companion, Susan Seaward of Dannemora and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Howard and Earl Aabye.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Robert W. Walker Memorial Chapel.
Donations, in his memory, may be to the American Lung Association.
