Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2009, in Pamplico United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
Mr. Cox was born in Florence County, a son of the late Risley and Mavis Hanna Cox. He was a member of Pamplico Lodge #324 A.F.M, the Omar Shrine, Pamplico United Methodist Church. He was a graduate from the Atlanta School of Electronics. He retired from E.I Dupont as a Shift Supervisor, retired as a Chicken Supplier for Campbell Soup and later Herider Farms and Gold Kist. He was a farmer producing Row Crops. He was an avid fisherman and always loved the Pee Dee River.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ray LeGrand Cox and William F. Cox.
Surviving are his loving wife, Jewell Cagle Cox of the home; children, Karen Cox Nettles and her husband, Sidney Nettles of Florence, Derrell L. Cox and his wife, Becky Cox of Pamplico; four grandchildren, Cecil Edward (Trey) Floyd, Martha Jewell Floyd both of Florence, Derrell Cox Jr. and Jordan Cox both of Pamplico; three sisters, Patricia Barrineau of Lake City, Nancy Turner of Hartsville and Ramona Turner of Pamplico.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at Pamplico United Methodist Church.
