Mr. Mosely, son of Jonathan Vester and Ollie Ann (Byers) Mosely, was born in Helsel/Canadian TWP, on the orginal 1889 Homestead Property- 80 acres, of his grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Mosely, purchased by his father, Ves, in 1911. (Ves died in Feb. 1947.)

He left the farm in Lexington, Cleveland Co., OK, to work in the oil fields in TX when 15 or 16, living with an uncle. On 12-05-36 Murle was 21 years of age and worked for B. & O Oil Co., OKC, OK. He also worked in the OK stills, as OK was a dry state at the time and bootlegging became a vocation for many.

At the age of 20, he married Oletta Mitchell and born of this union:
1....Merle Eugene, born 12-18-36.
2....Frederica Mosley Donaho, b. Oct 11, 1938, Purcell, d. July 07, 1975, Purcell. Divorced occurred about 1939.

He married (2) Jane Elizabeth Phipps, daughter of Charles Julius and Mary Louise (Parker) Phipps. They had met when Murle visited Edmoundson relatives in Compton, LA Co., CA.

He was a heavy equipment operator, an oil field welder, a car/truck mechanic and a Race Car-Chief Mechanic for his son, Micheal Dean Mosley. They lived in Brownburg, IN for about 11 years while Mike, raced at the Indy Speedway, returning to CA about the late 1970's. At that time they moved to Wrightwood, San Bernardino Co., CA., and lived in a home provided by their son. Murle owned a car repair business there, but moved to Hesperia due to his health.

At the age of 70 years, 10 months, 8 days, he died at Saint Mary's Hospital and services were held at Kern Hesperia Mortuary. Willie Nelson hymns & inspirational songs recorded by his son, Jon; George O'Shay's The Old Rugged Cross were among the musical selections. Upon her passing his wife, Jane, was to be cremated and buried with him.


this is a duplicate to memorial # 101352392. I am leaving this memorial until the other one has the spelling corrected. They spelled the last name as Mosely. apparently it was spelled this way previously.
His wife was Jane Elizabeth Phipps born 10 Dec 1920 in Los Angeles County, CA. She died 10 Jan 2014 in Yucaipa, San Bernardino Co. CA. It is possible that her death year has been entered since the photo was taken.
