Alexander Stewart, Orange County, North Carolina, came around 1803 or perhaps a year or so later to Waynesville, Warren, Ohio. His father and family followed a little later. There he married Rebecca Clark, who was born in South Carolina the daughter of John Clark, an ardent Quaker of Newberry District and Mary Campbell. John Clark died in 1796 and his widow Mary Campbell Clark along with her sons and dau. Rebecca, moved to Ohio in 1804 or 1805.
Alexander resumed the spelling Stewart and joined the Baptist church, and his parents, although not members, attended the same church. He acquired 417 acres of land about 1 1/2 miles from Freeport (Oregonia) and 4 miles from Waynesville, in the bottomland of the Little Miami river. On his land were a Free-will Baptist church, which he largely supported, a school house, and a cemetery. Alexander was buried on his farm, later his body was removed to a cemetery at Xenia.

He left a will and owned property not only in Ohio but in Wells County, Indiana. The information from his will indicates he was wealthy.
