The cemetery is the burial site of Thomas Watts, one of the first settlers in the area, who came to Texas with his family c. 1825. In 1834, he was awarded a land grant from the Mexican government that included the hill where the cemetery is located. Watts lived nearby until his death in 1841, and his is the earliest known burial at the site.
Today, the cemetery is in a state of neglect due to its remote location in overgrown forest and past logging activities. Two headstones remain intact, but several others are visible in a broken state and cannot be identified.
