Add PhotosThis was a private cemetery containing the graves of two Hogue infants; the family did not want their graves disturbed when Fontana Dam was being built; so they were left undisturbed; remain permits were obtained by the Tennessee Valley Authority. This was confirmed by Dale J Hogue; he said the land was close to land owned by the Crisp family later on. These two infants are descendants of William G Hogue and Hollan Hogue who lived on the other side of Meeting House Mountain from Panther Creek; the land was in some of the Hogue family in the past also.
From Tennessee Valley Cemetery Relocation Files 1933-1999 (about 1943 was the time frame when this description/information was written; also see image which I transcribed):
"CEMETERY NO. 40–HOGUE PRIVATE
The Cemetery is Located on the left bank of Stecoah Creek approximately 1.0 mile up-stream from the mouth at Little Tennessee River, on the property of R. B. Slaughter, Tract No. FR-683 [‘on ......." (marked out)]. Contains 2 graves, no monuments [added in pencil:] and is flooded. Elevation 1687. ["Elevation 1687" was marked out and"We executed" was marked out]. Remain agreements were executed [marked out: "and these"] Two graves [in pencil:] were left in their original location [marked out: will remain undisturbed and by necessity be] were flooded."
