Photos

This graveyard is located behind (south of) present day Hackberry Church. Several members of the Joseph W. Warren family may be buried there. There are no tombstones or grave markers. I was shown the location of this cemetery in 1992 by Mr. Jesse Clark who lived on the property at that time. There were several sunken in places back in an overgrown brushy area indicating old graves. Shortly afterwards this area was bush hogged and cleaned up. Now there is no sign of any of the graves.
This area was the plantation of Mr. William F. Cook prior to the War Between the States. According to Warren family history Mr. Cook gave the plantation to Joseph W. Warren in an agreement that Warren would be a substitute Confederate soldier for Cook's son. Pittsyvania County deed records support this Warren oral history. Mr. Jesse Clark in 1992 commented to me about the plantation being given away so that Cook would not have to serve as a Confederate solder. REAMEY WINN
