Add PhotosThis family cemetery is located on private property on Rt 639, east of I-95, near St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church. It is located on what is referred to as the "Old Oliver-Wright Place."
Family legend says that John Wright owned a large estate. Large enough to give each of his six children a parcel of land no less than 200 acres. Thus, all of his children lived within sight of the original house.
This cemetery is within that perimeter. It is presumed that this land was given to Robert Wright and he passed it on to his son, Minor. Minor's family lived on this property for many years. Apparently, the family sold the land in the late 1880's.
William (Willie) Oliver and Alice Virginia (Smith) Oliver lived on the property until her death in 1940. It then appears to have reverted to the family of James Dickerson Smith (Alice's father), who owned a large portion of the original Hamptonville estate. (Hence, some people believe this property was also part of that estate.)
