The old Van Pelt Cemetery was located in the field beside the old Sessom family home in Bertie County [now Hertford County]. The Sessom home and cemetery are located near Stony Creek Cemetery, 1 mile east on left, near edge of woods in Hertford County. Understood is that the gravestones in the Van Pelt Cemetery were removed and the graves plowed over circa 1950. Not known is where the gravestones were placed upon removal. Both Van Pelt and Sessom private burial grounds were in area of Van Pelt's Landing, later known as Pitch Landing in southeastern Hertford County on the Chinquapin Creek near Harrellsville.
