Located off Wilsons Church Road (Route 722)(east side) a short distance north of its intersection with Shingle Block Road (Route 24) near Body Camp, Bedford Co., VA, on property belonging to Geraldine Williamson Mann (1936-2013) and adjoining property of John A. and Helene Goggin Cox. When I, Bryan Godfrey, first visited the cemetery in 1996, it was overgrown in the woods, but when I returned in 2013, it was much more accessible via a path between pastures. In a 1932 application for a Confederate Veteran's marker for the grave of my great-great-great-grandfather Henry Byrd Cheek, the cemetery was referred to by his grandson Delbert R. Overstreet as the Lewis Burial Ground, but because of many other families buried there, I think it is more appropriate to refer to it as the Cheek-Lewis-Lansdown-Mayhew-Overstreet plot, as not everyone buried there was descended from the Lewis family. At the time that the cemetery was surveyed by Kenneth Crouch, probably in the early 1990s, the Bedford County Cemetery Survey listed 28 marked and 20 unmarked graves. However, when I surveyed it in 2013, I did not see all the tombstones that my Cousin Kenneth had recorded, making me fear some have since disappeared.
