Burgess Albert Draper Cemetery
Lasker, Northampton County, North Carolina, USA
Cemetery recorded February 2000; located way back in a field off Bridgers Rd Rt 1151. Can not be seen from road, access is across the fields.
Cemetery adjoining land that was inherited by the children of Millard Eugene "Genie" Bridgers, through the will of his father, Franklin Windfield Bridgers. The land where the cemetery is located was known as that of Jet (Jesse James) Draper (when I was a child in the 1940's), son of Savannah and Burgess.
There were many graves and obelisk type headstones in the 1940's (from my personal knowledge walking near and through this cemetery). Were some of the graves moved or, with time and the elements, did stones fall over, get broken, covered with vegetation and dirt and are now lost forever?
When cemetery recorded February 2000, there was a low joint headstone for Savannah and Burgess Draper with their names, year of birth and year of death. A marker was located for Kenneth Draper with his year of birth and year of death. In addition 3 pieces of a headstone were unearthed and when placed together indicated:
B A Draper
Borned Jul the 4, 1865
??? June 26 ???
March 2012 revisited cemetery - all that was visible was the joint headstone for Savannah & Burgess Draper due to dirt and vegetation growth. Perhaps digging might unearth the pieces of Burgess Draper's original gravemarker and the marker for Kenneth Draper. Maybe others?
