One of the oldest churches in Pittsylvania County, it was established in the late 18th century across the creek from the Birch Creek iron works and grist mill, yes at one time this was called Pittsylvania County and prior to that Halifax County. Actually, it is now located in Southerlin area. The graveyard is at the church. The last time I saw it in the late 1960s was before the restoration of the church. Currently (April 2012) none of the slave graves are now marked and very few graves are marked. Call and talk to a church elder if you feel you have family at this church. There is Taylor family plot. John Louis Taylor (abt 1848-abt 1930) who wed Mary Kendrick may also be buried here. They were the parents of Joseph Daniel Taylor, David Jessie Taylor, John Louis Taylor, and George E. Taylor. All resided in Halifax county. Fergusons, Kendrick, Jennings, Hawkers, and Hubbards are some of the families that are buried in the original cemetery.
