The cemetery is approximately 90' x 90' with a good chain link fence around it, and a gate. It is grass covered and well maintained by the current resident/owner of the Mission.
There is documentation about this cemetery in Volume ll of the Greene County Virginia Church & Community Cemeteries, & Family Graveyards, by the Greene County Historical Genealogy Committee.
Zee Lawson & Donald Morris stated that Wyatt Mountain was named after Wyatt Shifflett and he said to be buried in this cemetery with only a fieldstone, next to his wife, Rebecca Shifflett.
This fieldstone was later set in a cement base. Mrs. Nellie Ford died July 16, 2003 in Charlottesville, Virginia. She graduated from the Blue Ridge School of Virginia and helped establish the St. David's Episcopal Mission on Wyatt's Mountain, where she taught school and where this cemetery is now located. The small school building is behind the cemetery and now used as a Bed & Breakfast.
This information is courtesy of the Greene County Historical Society.
Location: This Cemetery is located at the intersection of Virginia Routes 632 & 676. I would recommend only using Bacon Hollow Road & Route 632. A 4WD vehicle is a necessity in the Fall, Winter, and Spring on Route 632.
