Add Photos"This family cemetery was one of two (see Gunn Cemetery, Tract B-25) located between Compass Trail and Garnett Avenue within Fort Pickett's cantonment area in what was
Tract B-25 owned by the Joseph Palmer Estate in 1944 (Table 1 and Figure 1). Both are marked as "relocated" on the 1944 map and one (Gunn Burial Plot) is included on
Godburn's list of cemeteries relocated to Butterwood Church where 26 individuals are listed: Ann G. Spain and 25 Unknown individuals (Godburn 1977: G-2). It cannot be
determined which cemetery in this tract is the "Gunn Burial Plot" on the relocation list, so it is possible that both may have been moved to Butterwood or that one was moved to Gills Bridge Road Cemetery. There is no mention of a "Gunn" or "Palmer" cemetery in the burial relocation information collected from the metal markers at Gills Bridge (see Table 5). The exact location of this former cemetery has not been identified at the time
of this survey."
