Add Photos"These 2 family cemeteries were located south of Lake Road and west of Pelham Road within the controlled access danger area of Fort Pickett in what was Tract H-285 owned
by O.D. Duncanson et al. in 1944 (see Table 1 and Figure 1). They are marked as "relocated" on the 1944 map and one is included on Godburn's list of cemeteries relocated to Butterwood Church where 11 individuals are listed: Mary Gunn, Mrs. Poter Gunn, T.B. Gunn, Edna Gertrude Gunn, W.J. Duncanson, Mary Francis Duncanson, R. Samuel Duncanson, Ann Bailey, Mrs. Shackelford, Mrs. Shackelford, and William
Harper (Godburn 1977: G-6). The other cemetery from this tract is noted on the small metal markers from the relocated graves at Gills Bridge Road where 7 Unknown
individuals are listed (see Table 5). Although it is likely that one cemetery was African American and the other Euro American, since both are referred to as "Duncanson", there is no way to tell which cemetery is which. The exact location of these former cemeteries has not been identified at the time of this survey."
