This family Cemetery is located about 5 mintues walking distance from Edith Ann Thrift Michell's house. It has been in the Garder-Holt family for generations and belonged to her mother, Nellie Gardner Thrift. It was deeded to her by her sister, Hattie Gardner Hearn, Their father, Nathan Gardner (the last to be buried here) inherited from his parents; Tom and Louisa (Holt) Gardner. There are three generations here, starting with Tom's mother, Elizabeth, who was the first family member to be buried here in 1846. Even though the postal house address is given as New Hill, Wake County, it actually lies just over the boarder into Chatham County, closer to Merry Oaks than to New Hill. It is well maintained. There are 9 graves, some have inscriptions, the older graves are only marked with stones. Information on those was provided by Nellie and Edith Ann as per family records. Although she allowed me to take pictures, she does not wish them to be put on-line at the present time. One grave has two burials, Catharine Gardner Holt's twin baby girls were buried together.
