Shelton, an officer in the Revolutionary War. Major Thomas Shelton was married three times. It is believed that Maj. Shelton's wives are buried in the family cemetery on the estate next to Maj. Shelton.
David R. Shelton, son of Major Thomas Shelton and Sallie Farra, inherited "Roseneath" after his father's death in 1826. David was born at "Roseneath" in 1814. He was married to Victoria Jackson Kean and they had
many daughters, but only one son, Charles T. Shelton. Charles T. Shelton was killed during the Civil War and was buried near Vicksburg, MS. After David's death, his daughters inherited "Roseneath". One daughter, Sallie Farrar Shelton, married a Mr. Cole, and lived at the home for awhile. Sallie's sister, Lucy Grattan Shelton, married Rev. H. R. P. McCoy in 1872. Their daughter, Helen McCoy, and her husband, Dr. Stehen Farrar Hart, were the next owners of "Roseneath". Serveral of these family members are buried in the family cemetery across the road (Route 522) from the plantation.
