This small family cemetery is located very near the Little River, just off of Capelsie Road between Troy and Candor, North Carolina (Montgomery County). It is on and surrounded by private land, and access requires walking across an active cattle pasture so coordination with the landowners is essential. The cemetery is surrounded by a chain-link fence in serviceable condition, but is not maintained and may be quite overgrown except perhaps in winter months.
The patriarch of this family branch is one of the older graves in the cemetery: David Cochran, who died in January of 1819. He headstone is still in legible, intact condition. He is buried next to his wife Catherine/Katherine (Butler) Cochran, who died in 1833. Her gravestone is still mostly legible but has broken. Most of the remaining graves in the cemetery (which includes graves as recent as 1933) are those of certain of their children, children-in-law, grandchildren, and grand-children-in-law. This includes several members of the Gillis family (Neil Gillis was the husband of Louisa Cochran Gillis, who in turn was the daughter of David and Catherine Cochran), who seem to have maintained a long presence on this land. The cemetery also contains the graves of Alvis and David Poer, and in fact these are the oldest identifiable graves in the cemetery (1808 and 1809 respectively). These are the only identifiable Poer graves in the cemetery, and are likely related via David Cochran's brother-in-law James Poer (who married David's sister Mary Cochran).
