The original gate along with part of the original fence, which were both cast by Arsenal workers from recycled Civil War artillery. The path is the Memorial Walk, leading to the gravesites of two former commanders of the Arsenal in the original Arsenal Post Cemetery.

This is the original site of the Rock Island Prison Barracks Union Cemetery. The sign reads:

The following Union Army soldiers were originally buried at this site but were later reinterred in the National Cemetary on Arsenal Island.

The aforementioned soldiers served as guards at the Confederate Prison located on Arsenal Island during the Civil War.

This piece of the original fence around the Rock Island National Cemetery is on display in the Rock Island Arsenal Museum. The fence was cast on the Arsenal from recycled Civil War artillery.
