Bio

I've been researching my family history for some time now. I've used the Find a Grave website as an input to that research but only recently became a contributor.

My purpose is not to collect and manage a large number of memorials. There are a lot of great volunteers who either add memorials, take photos, or both. I've benefited from their hard work and really appreciate them. However, my goal as a contributor is far less ambitious.

My intent is to add content to memorials of those individuals that I come across during my research. Most often that means suggesting edits of dates and family relationships to existing memorials that are managed by other people. Sometimes it means adding a detailed bio based on information I've discovered; information that I hope helps people connect with their ancestors and perhaps gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the past.

Most of the memorials I manage are somehow connected to my ancestors (or ancestors of relatives) such as their siblings, cousins, in-laws, etc. The memorial happened to be available at the time I came across them during my research and managing them simply made it quicker to edit or add content.

In some cases I've requested a contributor to transfer the memorials of my ancestors to me. The reason is because I tend to do a lot of word smithing to bios. My multitude of slight changes are easier to make when I'm able to perform the updates myself.

I'm happy to transfer memorials to more appropriate managers.
