Bio

My father passed away on January 8, 2019 and my mom sent me home with 6 boxes of family history. At first I didn't do much with it and then I found out that the Appleton City, MO museum was accepting articles about local families for an upcoming 150 year anniversary book. I had a deadline and a purpose which lead me to becoming a genealogist.

Most of my current expertise resides in Eastern Bates, and Western St. Clair County, MO. My 4x great grandfather was Elisha Evans who is buried in Frances Cemetery and according to the History of Bates County is alleged to be the first pioneer to settle in Bates County outside of the Harmony Indian Mission. I have another 4x great grandfather, Preston Daugherty who is buried in Round Prairie Cemetery and is documented in a Barry County, MO history book in fighting alongside his brothers and son for the Confederacy. In the Appleton City Cemetery, my 2x great grandfather, Silas Tylor Downer bought the family farm in 1887 after relocating from Dodge County, WI.

In regards to Walls, my 3x great grandfather is recorded as W.I. Wall, and married Varillia Evans. The only other thing known about W.I. Wall is that he came from Kentucky and died around the time of his son Dalton's birth. Dalton Walls was my 2x great grandfather who is buried in Meyers Cemetery and fought as a Sargent in the Calvary for the 1st Missouri Militia during the Civil War. My great grandfather was Prentice Walls and was the MKT Watch Inspector in Appleton City, MO.

I know quite a lot about the Leftridge's in Lafayette County, MO as well. Although it runs into a dead end with my 3x great grandparents, Jack Leftridge and Martha Finn in Louisville, KY.

I need to begin researching my mothers side of the family, and am in the process of actively seeking out Angel, Beale, O Dowd, and Westlake lineage.

If we share a common ancestor and you would like to take over management, just let me know and we should be able to work something out. Our goal should be to post the most accurate information and to leave any assumptions blank.

If you are of any relation, or can help provide information, please reach out. I would be happy to hear from you.

Thanks,
Brian Leftridge
