Bio

Never forget. Brent and Susie Holt Cox. Been on Findagrave many years. A passion to preserve the memory of those gone on. I'm not looking for anything but to help preserve graves, photos, and memories. I was a former history professor and commissioner of the Tennessee Historical Commission. My expertise was Native American history with emphasis on the Cherokee. I spent 7 years in studies and near twenty years researching on the reservations. I am a descendant of these people and I care deeply for their memory. My book Heart of the Eagle: Dragging Canoe and the Emergence of the Chickamauga Confederacy was among those focused on Cherokee genealogy and transition in turmolous times. I also worked with authors Robert Conley and Duane King over the years.
I began cemetery work with pen and paper in the 1970s. I love findagrave. I dont agree with many on what findagrave should be used for, and i consider it the most useful genealogical search engine and tool. I love photos added to the people for its easy to find online. I want to make each memorial better than i found it and i hope to find a caring descendant to take the memorial. Or, im happy to manage it; add to it; change it or help in any way. This is a passion and i love cemeteries.

Of note: if i find a memorial with the gravestone upside down or sideways, i will correct it and put the new one back up. So often i find many veterans like this and done by certain individuals. If i do it i mean no offense. Correct it and contact me and i will delete my corrected photo. I want to work with others. I appreciate many that do findagrave because i came from the era of taking down info from tombstones on paper and printing the books. Today it takes a team to make these memorials nice. I come from the Governor Gordon Browning Museum and i focus on veterans but i also search for families i knew. Thanks to all that do this as a hobby or passion.
Thanks to Jere Cox, Robert Cox, Rick Koelz, Sis Koelz, Emily Walker of the old era and Gary Barnes, Elaine Fly, Joyce White Jones, Mary Ann Arnold, Toni Kee, Adam McCartney and many others that make this successful.
