I am creating memorials and adding information for Shupe, Cregger, Hopstock, and Semonco families as I go through family records. It's a challenge since most records have variations or misspellings for the names, including birth, death, and marriage records and on grave markers.

Grandparents: Joshua Percival "JP" Shupe and Mary Catherine "Kate" Crigger Shupe. All children are matched to Mr. Shupe, including his son Geoge from first wife Annie Belle Finney Shupe, and 11 children with wife Mary Catherine Crigger. All of my aunts and uncles were known to me except for George, Lloyd, and Beatrice.

Grandparents: Mike Frank Semonco and Pauline Hopstock Semonco. Carpatho-Russian immigrants from the Carpathian mountain region of Eastern Europe. My aunts and uncle were known to me except for the four that died in childhood. Total of 10 children - limited information available for 2 sons Mike and Nick that died as infants (probably buried at Pocahontas, VA). Two children named Ann/Annie/Anna - 1st Ann 1918-1922 (buried Pocahontas, VA - name spelled Semanko on death certificate) and 2nd Ann 1932-2003 (body donated for medical research) and two children named Mary - 1st Mary 1920-1921 (probably buried at Pocahontas VA - name spelled Samonco on death certificate) and 2nd Mary 1923-2005 (buried Bluewell, WV) - information confirmed with birth records, death certificates, census records, and family information provided by Mary Semonco Shupe and FG Ross.

Name variations for Shupe: Scheuppe, Schuppe, Schupp, Shupp, Shupe, misspelled as Shoop

Name variations for Crigger: Krueger, Kruegar, Krieger, Kreger, Cregar, Creger, Cregger, Crigger

Name variations for Semonco: Szmanko, Szemanco, Semanko, Semanco, Semonco, Samonco

Name variations for Hopstock: Hapstack, Hapstak, Hapstock, Hopstack, Hopstock

Location of families: Elkhorn was the mailing address - Crozier/Crozer/Crozier Bottom was the location of the family home - the name came from the Crozer Coal and Coke Company that operated in the area. Elkhorn was also near Switchback - in the 1920 and 1930 census Switchback is listed as the voting location for Crozier/Elkhorn. The road to the location of the old Shupe home site located off of Highway 52 was called Shupe's Curve, and has been closed off with a gate for many years. The Semonco home was the house closest to the road entrance just below "tank hill" where a large water tank was located on US Highway 52. The water tank is no longer there, and few of the houses are left standing on the top row.
