Bio

My name is Garrett Ziglar, I started researching my family roots 7 years ago when I was 16 years old. I am a 13th generation Ziglar. When I studied census records I realized our surname was spelled differently. Some spell it Zeigler, Ziegler, Ziglar, Zigler, Zieglar and more. According to my research our first known ancestor was Joachim Zeigler born in 1645 in Germany. His son was George Friderich Albrecht Zeigler born in 1672. His son was Johann Leonhardt Ziegler (Ziglar) born in 1711 and he died December 3, 1757 (which also happens to be my birthday December 3,1996).His son was Christopher Ziegler born in 1738. And his son Leonard Ziegler born in 1762. Leonard was in the American Revolutionary War. His son was Christopher Ziegler born in 1793 and he married Sarah Mills. According to Slave Schedules Christopher had 28 Slaves between 1850-1860 with a net worth of $7,000.00. Christopher's son was Richard Michael Ziegler born in 1816-1892 according to the 1860 census records Richard had 10 slaves (8 women and 2 boys ). Richard had a slave named Elsie Ziegler born in 1823 to Pollie Ziegler(1810). Richard did have a family of his own but he was also the father of Elsie's son, my great great great great grandfather Reed Ziegler born in 1850. According to the 1870 census records Reed was living in the house of Richard. Reed married Sarah Chandler born in May of 1860, and they had 12 children. Their 8th child is my great great great grandfather John William Ziegler born in 1892-1936. John married Mary Maggie Reid born in 1892-1983 on December 11, 1910. They had 14 children. Their first child is my great grandfather. His name was Charlie Reid Ziegler born in 1913-1965. He married Grace Hairston. And the had 6 children. Their second child and first son, is my grandfather Lloyd Reid ‘Willie' Ziegler born in Henry County Virginia in 1940 and died in Alexandria Va in 2000. He married Vernicia L. Hampton in April of 1964. Their son is my father Roderick A. Ziglar. My father married my mother S. Kaye Barrow in April of 1994. They had 3 children.I (R. Garrett Ziglar) was born on December 3, 1996. My journey isn't complete but our name will continue with my son. He is a 14th generation Ziglar (Ziegler)
