Bio

I've been tracing my family history since the late 80's. Have had to recover from two computer crashes and three program crashes. Currently recovering from a program crash. I have well over 32,500 names in my database.

The Haiflich Name has been changed, misspelled, and respelled, enormously. According to my, and others, research, the name as of the 1600's was Hoefflich. The most common spellings are; Hoeflich, Hoflich, Haflich, Hafley, Haifley, and Haiflich. But that only scratches the surface in finding the records of the family. On top of that, there are other families that have the same spellings, and misspellings, as many of my family name misspellings. Many people prior to the 1900's were illiterate, even uneducated, and spelled the name as they envisioned it sounded like and the pronunciations also differed.

The spellings, and misspellings, that I have encountered, so far, are:

Hoefflich, Hoeflich, Hofflich, Hoflich, Hoflick, Haflich, Hafflich, Haiflich, Hacflick, Haeflich, Hafelick, Haffele, Haffelee, Haffely, Haffley, Hafflick, Hafflie, Hafflik, Haflach, Haflack, Haflech, Hafleck, Hafleg, Haflegh, Hafley, Häflich, Hafliche, Haflick, Haflicke, Haflieck, Haflig, Haflilch, Haflisch, Haflish, Haflisk, Haflitch, Haiflech, Haifleigh, Haifley, Haiflick, Haifliegh, Halflech, Halflich, Harflick, Haslich, Hatlich, Hayflake, Hayfleck, Hayflick, Hayley, Hayligh, Heffley, Heffly, Heflea, Heflick, Heflegh, Hefley, Heflich, Heflick, Heflish, Hefly, Heissley, Helffrich, Helfish, Helfrich, Helfrick, Helfrigh, Helfrish, Helick, Heligh, Heyly, Hiessley, Hoeffley, Hoffart, Hofich, Hoiflich, and Huflick.

I know that there is another family that spells their name Haflich, that are not related to me. They're Jews from Poland. Although there could be a link way back in history. There is another family that spells their Surname Hofflich. That family came to America as Hoeflich, almost 100 years after my ancestors did. And again, there could be a link way back in history.
