I was born and raised in Marshalltown, Iowa. I graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1964 and attended Marshalltown Community College from 1964 to 1966.
In 1966 I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and spent my entire enlistment at F.E. Warren AFB in Cheyenne, WY. I was a member of the then 1381st Geodetic Survey Squadron. Our primary mission was the annual surveys required on more than 200 hundred Minuteman missiles surrounding Cheyenne. In addition, I was involved in a number of survey projects throughout the United States as well as the Marshall Islands and Greenland.
After my stint in the air force, I returned to Marshalltown and worked at Fisher Controls for most of my career, retiring in Nov. 2010.
