I am excited about pulling together my Underwood ancestors as I work on my genealogy with my family on this website.

Looking forward to sharing data with others who are related to this family.

============================================

John Thomas Underwood (1857–1937) was an American entrepreneur and inventor who founded the Underwood Typewriter Company.

He was the elder brother of missionary Horace Grant Underwood, and helped finance Horace's missionary work in South Korea.

The site of his mansion in Clinton Hill was donated by his widow and daughter to the borough of Brooklyn as a public park, named in his honour.

He was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.
