My humble advice is to please be super cautious with the data and verify like crazy. I've seen many family trees with inaccurate information from lack of research.

He did disappear after returning from the Civil War. However, his Civil War records show he deserted and he was sickly in KY. I'm confident Captain John F. Monroe has the wrong birth data here on Findagrave and Captain John F. Monroe is not the son of Marcus and Nancy Monroe.
