.....My forebear and seventh great grandfather, George Thomason , II(1602-1666) was a London bookseller with a bookshop named the "Rose and Crown" located in the Churchyard of Old Saint Paul's Cathedral. George amassed a collection of over 22,000 Civil War pamphlets and items, eventually purchased by King George III. Today this important collection is housed in the British Museum Library, and is known as "The Thomason Tracts".

.....Both Old Saint Paul's Cathedral and George Thomason's bookshop "The Rose and Crown" were destroyed in the "Great Fire of London" in 1666.
George also died in 1666, a few months before the fire.
The first Saint Paul's was founded in AD 604.
After the fire in 1666, a new church was designed by the architect Sir Christopher Wren in the Baroque style, and built in the latter part of the 17th century. It was completed in 1711, and is the current church. It is the second largest church in Britain, and the largest in London. It was the sight of the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer.

My forebear, George Thomason is buried at St. Dunstan's in the West, London.

.....(Note: In George's will, dated 20 November 1664, he requested that his sonne Henry preach two sermons a year...one at St. Dunstans in the West and the other at St. P...., probably St. Pauls, London.

....."he shall yearly make choyce of to preach two sermons yearly the (?) one (?) in the parich Church of St. Dunstans in the West upon Good Fryday in every year in commemoration of the sufferings of our Lord and blessed Savior for mankind. And the other to be preached at St. P___ Church in London upon the thirteenth day of August in every year in commemoration of the greate deliverence from the Spanish invasion in Anno Domini one thousand five f____ four and eight (Note: the defeat of the Spanish Armada occurred in 1588)? a mercy ? to this kingdom still be kept in the memory and never forgotten.")

.....I enjoy creating memorials for my family members and earlier forebears, to honor and pay respect to them. I would like future generations of their descendants to know where they are buried, and perhaps visit their gravesites, and connect to their own history. Sadly, some gravesites and tombstones are unknown, and gone forever, due to the passage of time, errosion, etc., but it is nice to remember that our early family members existed and preceded us.

When possible, I try to give some background information and a photograph.
