Bio

Never heard about "genealogy" as a hobby until after high school. But actually started collecting information at about 8 years of age. I had a desk calendar that had a place to put birthdays, quizzing mom about when everyone was born the dates were filled, the ones who had already passed included the date of death. My grandparents were already gone, and the family lived mainly in Tennessee; we lived in Oklahoma, so older relatives were not available to talk with, and long distanct phone calls were out of the question in the early 60's too. When I finally found out about the great hobby out came my book and so many dates were already at my fingertips. There were sometimes a little tidbit about that person was written down.

After losing my mom, I got busy with a new job and put genealogy on the back burner. A couple of years ago it came back to the front and with the internet and so many new resorces it's so interesting at what's available.

Just recently I found records that solved a 149 year old mystery from the Civil War. Joseph Monroe was taken POW and never heard from. Records have been found to show what happened, and that he is now buried at the Richmond National Cemetery in VA.
