Bio

John Marau Dew was born in White County Tennessee to Joseph Cannon Dew and Nancy Hunter, he married Letha Ann Byers December 22 1850 and they had 4 children LaFarcha 1852 Nancy Salenia 1854 John Samuel 1857 and Millard Fillmore 1859. He enlisted in the Confederated Army in 1861 in Tulahoma Tennessee in the 25th infantry as a Corporal. As part of the 25th he was in the Battle of Mill Springs Kentucky in which General Zollicoffer was killed the 25th then moved into Fentress Counter where he entered a military hospital where he died on July 1 1862 and was buried in an unmarked grave. Family history has it that after his widow was notified of his death, she rode a horse all over Northern Tennessee trying to locate his grave. As an interesting side note after his mother died his father married his wife's older sister making his wife's sister his step mother in law.
