Reed Lee Shane, 70, died at 3:36 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, at his residence. He was born in Grant County on Feb. 20, 1941, to the late Larah and Decimal (Lincoln) Shane. He married Cheryl A. Jamison on Feb. 16, 1968, and she survives.

Reed was a 1959 graduate of Swayzee High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served from 1962 to 1966 in Korea. Reed was a member of the Fairmount American Legion and the Marion Amvets. He enjoyed drag racing and NASCAR.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Shane, Swayzee; daughter, Kimberly Ann (Maurice) Berbel, Allen, Texas; son, Kent Michael (Rachael) Shane, Fort Wayne; grandsons, Conner and Riley Shane, Fort Wayne, and Alexander Berbel, Allen, Texas; brother, Larry "Red" Shane, Marion; sister, Nettie Brown, Tallahassee, Fla.; and two very special friends, Hal Canode, Marion, and George Ocock, New Haven.

Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Miller officiating. Burial will be in Thrailkill Cemetery, Swayzee.
