BIOGRAPHY provided by Patrick Mahowald, great-nephew Oct 20, 2012.

Father Anton Mahowald was ordained as a Catholic priest on June 10, 1928. He taught Theology at Nazareth Hall seminary school for priests in MPLS/StPaul. Bishop Paul Dudley spoke highly of him, and said "Father Anton was his spiritual director".

After teaching, Fr Anton became the pastor at St. Elizabeth's parish in Minneapolis between 1943 - 1956.

Anton was born in Hector, Minnesota, and was the 2nd youngest of nine children to Nicholas P Mahowald & Veronica Berres. His father died in 1911, so the family returned back to their ancestral hometown of New Market. Two brothers worked on cement construction, and Anton helped his family be the local telephone operators.

As a priest, he attended many baptisms, weddings, funerals, and general family gatherings. In hobbies, he liked photography, fishing and genealogy.

Fr. Anton Mahowald was the publisher of the 1952 Mahowald Family Tree. He compiled it with help from relatives, and several relative priests. Anton printed it with his nephew Donald's help in Minneapolis. The Tree booklets were mailed to relatives across USA in honor of the 100-Year anniversary of the first Mahowald's arriving in the USA.
