Joseph S. Enders was the 7th child of George Enders and Susannah Fetterhoff Enders. During the Civil War, he served with Co. A, 172nd Pennsylvania Drafted Militia from October 28, 1862 to July 31, 1863. It is unknown if his death was related to his war service.

The son of George & Johanna (Fetterhoff) Enders, in 1860 he was living with his farming family in Jackson Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
A Civil War veteran, he was drafted by Pennsylvania at the stated age of twenty in Dauphin County October 30, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg November 2 as a private with Co. A, 172nd Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company August 1, 1863.
It is as yet unknown if his death stemmed from any incident or illness during military service.
