KINGSTREE - Harmon Koon "H.K." Heins, Jr., 85, widower of Mary Katherine E. Heins, died Saturday, February 1, 2014, in Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. Mr. Heins was born December 6, 1928, in Greeleyville, a son of the late Harmon Koon Heins and Allie Montgomery Heins.

He was a graduate of Greeleyville High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. "Mr. H.K." had retired after 36 years from the USDA, having served as the Williamsburg County executive director of the ASCS office, where he was loved and admired by both the farmers and his coworkers. He was a faithful member of McDowell Presbyterian Church in Greeleyville, where had served as a Deacon and Elder, and he had served as the Moderator of Harmony Presbytery. He was a Life Member of Inglesby Masonic Lodge No.267 AFM in Greeleyville, where he served two terms as Worshipful Master and he was a former member of the Kingstree Lions Club. For the past eight years, he had been a devoted employee of Williamsburg Funeral Home.

In addition to his wife, Mary Katherine, and his parents, Harmon and Allie, Mr. H.K. was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristin M. Goolsby, and a sister, Anna Lou H. Byers.

Surviving are: two daughters, Mary Kaye Heins (Calvin) Bailey of Walterboro, and Susanne Heins (Lane) Goolsby of DePere, WI; six grandchildren, Trey, Stewart and Jim Bailey, and Rachel, Jessica and Anna Goolsby; two sisters, Virginia Heins Thompson of Vienna, VA, and Cecilia Heins (Raymond) Frazier of Charles Town, WV; a brother, Edward M. (Nell) Heins of Mt Pleasant, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2014, in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in New Market Cemetery near Greeleyville. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to McDowell Presbyterian Church, PO Box 435, Greeleyville, SC 29056.
