Mr. Joel Richard Hunt, Jr., age 65 of Whiteville died Sunday, April 05, 2009 at Columbus Regional Healthcare System, Whiteville.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Chadbourn Presbyterian Church with Reverend Robert Link officiating.
He was the son of the late Lillian Grainger & Joel Richard Hunt, Sr. Joel retired from the Division of Prisons after 38 ½ years of service and for the last ten years of service he was the superintendent of the Columbus Correctional Institution. He was the recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine given by Governor Michael Easley on April 1, 2003 upon his retirement from the Division of Prisons.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda McArthur Hunt of the home; a daughter, Tammy Hunt Buffkin and her husband, Tim of Green Sea; two sons, Michael K. Hunt and his wife, Ginny of Apex, and Jeffrey K. Hunt and his wife, Amy of Tabor City; a sister, Carolyn H. Fleming of Lugoff, SC; four grandchildren, Leah and Lana Grace Buffkin, Alexis and Peyton Hunt.
Memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center, 121 West Main Street, Whiteville, NC 28472.
Visitation will be 6 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn.
