HUGH EDWARD WALKER (Age 83)


Formerly of Springfield, VA, died peacefully Thursday, June 30, 2011, at the Trinity Grove Nursing Facility in Wilmington, NC. He was born in Washington, DC. During his youth he was an officer in the Sea Scouts. After graduating high school, he joined the Navy to pursue his love for the water and served honorably in the Pacific theater during World War II. After leaving the Navy he accepted a position with the FBI in Washington, D. C., where he retired after 30 years of service. He moved to Wilmington, NC in 1990.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Walker, by his granddaughter Kristine Varner, and his 3 brothers James, John, and Thomas Walker.

He is loved and will be missed by his daughter Connie and husband Gary Varner of Dumfries, VA; one granddaughter, Dana and husband William Lowry of Haymarket, VA; two great-grandsons, William and Patrick Lowry; his sister, Ruth Rahm of Casper, Wyoming, many nieces and nephews, and his friend and caregiver, Joe Mallard.

Hugh will be laid to rest next to his wife of 60 years, Nettie at National Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Falls Church, VA. Funeral services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Hugh's memory to Trinity Grove, 631 Junction Creek Drive, Wilmington, NC 28412.
