Arthur B. Russin-Nash, was educator, minister

Arthur B. Russin-Nash, 66, of Route 9, died Tuesday in the Veterans Administrations Medical Center in Northampton.

He was employed by the Berkshire Community College, Pittsfield, from 1984 until 1990.

He was assistant principal at Copeland School in Rockaway, N.J. from 1970 to 1982. He was an adjunct faculty member of Keane College in Union, N.J. from 1968 until 1973. He was director of the Adult Education at the Neighborhood House in Patterson, N.H. from 1968 until 1973. He had taught at the Gill Prep School in Bernardsville, N.J. from 1968 until 1980.

He was born in Newton. He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland in 1956, a master's degree in history from Hofstra University in 1965, a master's degree in political science from Boston University in 1968 and a Ph.D from Franklin University in Physiology in 1978. He had also attended the Army Command and General Staff College in 1966.

He was ordained as a Universalist minister in 1970 and was a past deacon and choir member of the Village Congregational Church. He was pastor and founder of First Universal Church of American, Inc. and president of the Universal Voice Physics Society.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, the Korean War and also of the Vietnam War where he was a prisoner of war, retiring in 1969 as a lieutenant colonel. He received a Legion of Merit in 1968 and an Army Commendation Medal in 1961.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Scabbard and Blade, the Cummington Grange, the Hillside Pomona Grange and the State & National Grangers. He was a past member of the Friends of the Library.

He leaves his second wife, the former Veronica Russin; a son, David Nash of Rising Sun, Md.; three daughters, Kathleen Kuehanm and Mary Ellen Nash, both of Morris Planes, N.H. and Christine Huteson of Cheshire; his first wife, Johanna Nash of Morris Planes, N.J.; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday at the Village Congregational Church with burial in the Arlington National Cemetery , Virginia.
