A paragon of America's Greatest Generation, Dan answered the call of his country on two occasions serving with the United States Marine Corps during WWII and the Korean War.
He retired from the N & W Railroad in 1983. Dan was an earnest, thoughtful and soft spoken man who loved his family. He adored his wife and children, nurtured many friendships and treated people he encountered with courtesy and respect. He loved hunting, the donut shop gang and his Smoke House buddies.
Surviving in addition to his wife Helen are his children Dixie Hogan and her husband Jerald of Kokomo, Michelle Beatty and her husband Scott of Kokomo, Bill Shuey and his wife Sharon of Peru and Barbara Nye of Peru; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Libby, Connie and Roberta as well as sons Patrick Michael and Jim Shuey and a son-in-law Gary Nye.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru with Pastor George Dinkel officiating. Military rites will be provided by members of the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to Miami County Helping Hands.
