Walter Bell was the son of James Bell (d. 1819/20) and his first wife Isabella Storey. His paternal grandfather may have been named Walter Bell as well, but this is uncertain. His maternal grandfather was James Storey (d. 1762).

Walter married Hannah Ross (1774-1838, daughter of William and Jane Ross), their Cabarrus County marriage bond dated Feb. 27, 1797. Walter and Hannah had eight known children:

1. James Bell (born c.1798/1800, no further info.)

2. Jane D. Bell (1801-1879, m. Barnett DeWeese)

3. Isabella Bell (c.1805/10-1860s, m. Archibald York, 2nd m. James A. Query)

4. William Ross Bell (c.1810-1868, went to Tennessee, married several times)

5. Aseneth Bell (c. 1811-1854, m. James M. Irvin)

6. Levi Bell (1812-1893, m. 1st Mary Matilda Killough, 2nd. Mary Jane Van Pelt, 13 children)

7. Andrew Bell (1815-1884, m. Martha A. Robinson)

8. Martha Reetta Bell (c. 1817-1859, Mrs. William P. Rogers).

The original Bell tract of land from the 1750s adjoined the lands of the church and was in both counties...Rowan and Mecklenburg then, Iredell and Cabarrus later.

I believe Walter Bell's grandfather, father of James Bell (d. 1819/20), was Walter Bell who was killed by the Indians in Pennsylvania inn 1758.
