GAINESBORO -- Funeral services for John Homer Apple, 90, of Gainesboro were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, at the Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial was in Granville Cemetery.
Mr. Apple died Thursday, March 29, 2007, in Masters Health Care Center in Algood.
He was born July 11, 1916, in Jackson County to the late Robert Nelson and Sally Elizabeth Apple.
He was a farmer and member of Flynn's Lick Methodist Church. Mr. Apple was past president and secretary of the Upper Cumberland Beef Breeders Association.
His family includes his wife, Lona Daris Ragland Apple of Gainesboro, whom he married on Aug. 13, 1936; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ted Apple of Nashville, Jimmie and Vickey Apple of Gainesboro, and Ray and Jeri Apple of Villa Rica, GA; two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy and Leroy Mackie of Cookeville, and Patty Apple Barlow of Lebanon; brother, Charlie Apple of Baxter; 13 grandchildren, Melinda Anderson, Jennifer Kossman, Emily Brown, Susanne Lee, Tim and Lucinda Barlow, Melanie Burd, and Terry, Chris, John, Mark, Stephanie and Jeffery Apple; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Bedford, Walter, Tom, Marlin, Donald and Clarence Apple; three sisters, Eliza Ragland, Ina Vinson and Annie Harris; and a granddaughter, Jane Apple Barlow.
Rev. Jackie Wheeler officiated the services.
