Asheville: Alberta Chapman Aiken, 65, fondly known as "Ms. Mookie", departed this life on earth Saturday, September 6, 2008 at her home in the presence of family. She was a native of Asheville and a daughter of the late Robert and Sylvia Elizabeth Hughes Chapman. Alberta was a former employee of Mission Hospital and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a younger sister, Carolyn C. Robinson.
With fond memories to cherish, surviving family include her lifelong companion, James A. Freeland; sons, Joe Louis Aiken, Jr. and Troy Chapman of Asheville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, William "Goodbuddy" Hughes of Manhattan, NY; sister, Rachel H. Finnie (Rev. George) of Queens, NY; several nieces and nephews; and a very dear friend, Gale Bowie of Asheville.
Graveside service will be 4 p.m., Sunday, Sunset Cemetery with Rev. J.W. Brewster officiating,
