Charles Eugene Reed served in the 455th AAA Bn, Battery 'A', Gun Crew #1, in WW2. He served in England, France, Germany and Austria in Patton's Third US Army. The 455th AAA was an antiaircraft unit in XX Corps of the Third Army. He and the other men trained at Camp Stewart and Ft. Benning, GA. in 1942-1943. They sailed for their assignment in England on Sept. 5, 1943, aboard the "H.F. Alexander", which broke down after a few days at sea. Towed to Halifax, Nova Scotia, they were able to get a boarding on the "Queen Elizabeth" and finished their trip across the Atlantic...

Charles Eugene Reed of Hopewell Township, died Saturday, September 4, 1999 in the UPMC Beaver Valley. He was 75 years of age.
Mr. Reed was born on September 19, 1923 in Rimersburg. He was the son of the late Roy Carlton Reed and Sarah Blanche Whitmer Reed.
Mr. Reed was a veteran having served with the 455th AAA Battalion during World War II.
He was a retired employee of LTV, Aliquippa Works, retiring in 1985 with 33 years of service.
He was a member of the New Bethlehem United Presbyterian Church, Independence Township. He was a lifetime member of the Center Township Vets, 1821, where he was a former commander, and was a former Beaver County Council commander. He was also a member of the Baden American Legion Post 641; F.O.E. No. 965 in Falls Creek and was a dedicated member of the Beaver County Special Military Unit.
Survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Anna Satterlee Reed; three sons, Carl (Patty) Reed of White Pine, Tennessee, Gary (Fiona) Reed of Sidney, Ohio, and William (Peggy) Reed of Virginia Beach, Virginia; five grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; four great-step-grandchildren; a brother, William Reed of Monaca; a sister, Mrs. Kathleen Warnick of Warren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Paul E. Bohn Funeral Home in Ambridge. Burial was in the Temple Cemetery, Warsaw Township, Jefferson County. The Beaver County Special Military Unit performed military rites.
