Richard 'Dick' Sugar was Chief of the Williams Fire Department. Died in the line of duty. His name is inscribed on the Michigan Fallen Heroes Memorial Monument, Stone 5, Row 23. The memorial is located at the intersection of County Center Drive East (north entrance) and N. Telegraph Rd., on Oakland County's complex at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac, Michigan.

Richard J. 'Dick' Sugar, 57, 302 Edwards, Auburn, died Saturday,Oct. 3, 1987, at the Midland Hospital Center.
He was born May 9, 1930, in Alma,and was raised and educated in Midland, graduating from Midland High School in 1948.
He served in the U.S. Armed Forces for two years during the Korean Conflict.
In 1950, he married the former Helen M. Hock in Midland and moved to Auburn in 1959. He worked in construction all his life and was co-owner and president of Sugar Construction Co.
He was a member of the ABC Builders Association, the Midland Chambers of Commerce and the Auburn United Methodist
Church.
He was a lifetime member of the Auburn Williams Fire Dept, serving as it's fire chief since 1972.
He was actively involved in forming and serving on the building committee for the new fire station. While serving as fire chief he represented the City of Auburn, holding office with the Bay county Firefighters Association as both the vice president secretary.
He was also secretary of the Bay County Fire Chiefs Association and was very active in many sports programs
in the Auburn area. He was the 1987 recipient of the Laverne
Gonyea Citizens Award.
He leaves his wife, Helen; sons Daniel Sugar and Michael Sugar,both of Auburn, and Timothy Sugar of Mount Clemens; daughters Karen Daniel of Flint and Melody Raab of Auburn; brothers Donald Sugar of Midland, Junior Sugar of Albright Shores, Russell Sugar of midland and Frederick Sugar of bay City; a sister, Joanne Wellman of Beaverton; and five grandchild.
