Gladys Arnold Roots, 99, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004.
Private graveside services were held Friday in Llano Cemetery with Kevin Deckard, her grandson and minister at Westover Fellowship Church, officiating. Arrangements were by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mrs. Roots was born to William Henry Arnold and Emma Cox Arnold on April 7, 1905, in Waldo, Ark. She graduated from high school and business college, working in Dallas as a secretary for Holland Magazine. Gladys married George Thomas Roots in Dallas in 1927, and they moved to Amarillo in 1929. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978; her parents; and nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Roots Deckard of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Tom Deckard, Kevin Deckard, Georgeanna Sader and Gretchen Schartz; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
