Born on July 2, 1922, in Stokes County to Andy Lane and Bessie Bullins York, he had made his home in this are his entire life. He was a retired truck driver for Thomasville Furniture Industries. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II . He was a member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church and the Billy Graham Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and his wife, Alma Lucas York on Sept. 16, 1985.
Surviving are his daughter, Linda Swaney and husband Roger of Thomasville; son, Vernon York, all of Thomasville; grandchildren, Amy Richey and husband Curt, Bradley York and wife Donna, and Misty Payne and husband Richard; great-grandchildren, Tyler Payne, Catherine Payne, Kristin York, Dustin York, Hannah Richey and Luke Richey; a special friend and longtime companion, Willa Mae York and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who made life truly wonderful.
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Carolina Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. David E. Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville.
