Edward Albert Wagner, 88, of Montgomery died on September 3, 2006 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. Ed was born on March 20, 1918 in Aurora, IL, to Bernard and Lena (Schneider) Wagner. During the late 30's and early 40's, he played full back for the semi-pro football team the Aurora Clippers. Also in high school, he was a life guard/high diver at Exposition Park. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II and during the Korean War, he served aboard the USS Wasp. After returning home from World War II, he met and married Bernice Renner in Aurora in 1947. During the 50's and 60's, he was a little league manager for the Thor Drill Cats and the Stephens and Adams team. Ed also enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR. Ed and his wife are members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aurora.
Survivors include his loving wife, Bernice; son, Greg Wagner of Wyoming; daughter, Cindy (Dan) Cram of Colorado; two step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; an infant grandson; daughter-in-law, Ann Wagner; and brothers, Elmer and Clarence.
Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at 1 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway, Montgomery, IL with Pastor Jock Ficken officiating.
The family will be receiving guests from noon until service time. The family would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to the caretakers at Seasons Hospice and Rush-Copley Medical Center staff.
Memorials may be made in his name to Seasons Hospice or to St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
