He was the son of Otto and Sophia (Metz) Serr. On Jun 29, 1952, he married Phyllis Finley, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Carl (Mindy), Wapak; two daughters: Karen (Richard) Hatfield, Wapak, and Connie (Wayne) Schneider, Botkins; a brother, Ernest (Beverly), TX; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a grandson, Nathaniel Scott Hatfield; a daughter-in-law, Megan "Peachey" Serr; three brothers: Herman (Katharine), Willis (Ruth) and Edison (Rosemary); and three sisters: Leona (Gilbert) Schumann, Hulda Serr and Margaret Serr.
He attended Botkins School until his junior year and graduated from Hackson Center High School in 1946. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1947 and served his country during the Korean War. He was honorable discharged in 1951. He retired in 1994, after 26 years of service with the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a letter carrier and window clerk. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Botkins, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was also a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post #3316, Jackson Center, and the American Legion, Heiland Post #446, Anna. He was an avid antique collector and loved to attend auctions.
Funeral services will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Botkins, with Pastor Bob Carter officiating.
